What is CE Certification?

CE stands for Conformité Européenne (European Conformity). It’s a standard used in the European Union to ensure that motorcycle protective gear—like jackets, pants, gloves, and armor—meets strict safety, quality, and durability standards. This certification is essential for riders who want to ensure their gear provides real protection in the event of a crash.

CE Protection Classes for Motorcycle Apparel

Protective motorcycle clothing is classified into three CE safety classes under the EN 17092 standard. These classes help riders understand the level of protection a garment offers:

  • Designed for track and high-speed road use.

  • Offers maximum abrasion, impact, and burst resistance.

  • Usually made with leathers and heavy-duty materials.

  • Bulkier and heavier—may sacrifice comfort for maximum safety.

🅰️ Class AA – Balanced Protection & Comfort

  • Ideal for road riders who want high safety with more flexibility.

  • A good blend of abrasion resistance and wearability.

  • Common in touring and urban motorcycle gear.

🅰️ Class A – Essential Protection

  • Focuses on basic impact and abrasion protection.

  • Prioritizes comfort, lightness, and mobility—great for city or casual riders.

  • Often used in lightweight or summer riding gear.


CE-Rated Armor: Impact Protection Levels

Armor is rated separately under EN 1621 standards. It’s tested for how well it absorbs impact energy. There are two levels:

  • Level 1: Maximum force transmitted is ≤ 18 kN
    (Lighter, more flexible, but slightly less protection)

  • Level 2: Maximum force transmitted is ≤ 9 kN
    (Thicker and absorbs more energy—ideal for knees, hips, elbows, shoulders, and back)

Look for CE Level 2 armor in high-quality gear for superior impact protection.
